Usage of Standard / Safety

The wireless M-Bus protocol specifies the communication between meter resp. sensors and the controlling gateways / MUCs. There are 3 operating modes (S, T, R) for various requirements and uni- and bidirectional communication to mobile or stationary systems. For a long communication range the RF modules are using a frequency range from 868 to 870 MHz with a channel width of 100 KHz and a data rate of 16.4 kbit/s. 
The communication can be encrypted with the AES algorithm (128 Bit). Therefore there is enough protection against  listening and attacks. Moreover there are further security features like protection against replay attacks. The MBS devices will get OMS certified successively.
